Daves's Causes

It was the eyes. Big. Sad. Helpless. Just staring at him. The eyes of an African child on the brink of death. Fifteen year old Conner Cress could not pull his gaze off of them. Hanging out in his bedroom, sipping a water bottle, Conner was reading a magazine article focused on the plight of entire African villages. The accompanying photograph captivated him.

It was the eyes. But what about them what was it that would not let him look away? They were without hope. Hopeless.

The culprit? The devastating calamity that brings so much death to Africa? It might surprise you. Not Aids. Not disease. Not even lack of adequate medical care. The one thing that causes a death every 15 seconds water. Or more specifically, the lack of it.

Conner learned that dehydration is so prevalent in many villages, that when the children cry, their bodies refuse to manufacture tears. They cry “dry tears”. It was then that Conner says, “God called me to make a difference.”

Overwhelmed by the task in front of him and with no idea where to start, he approached four buddies and shared his vision for an organization that existed to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people on another continent on the other side of the world. People they would probably never meet or even see.

And so Dry Tears, Inc. was born. A 501(c)3 organization.

In the short time since that initial meeting, these 5 high school buddies have created a line of Dry Tears products to sell, raised tens of thousands of dollars, partnered with well drilling companies, built wells, and have even partnered in the construction of an irrigation system to help improve the lives of countless others. In 2007, they were a feature article in the national publication of Breakaway Magazine published by Focus on the Family, and the United Way recognized their efforts and honored them with the “Helping Hands Award”.

In November of 2008, I will be traveling to Africa with the Dry Tears guys to see first-hand the impact that this campaign of hope is bringing.

If you are looking for an amazing and worthy cause to support, I encourage you to click on the link below and purchase some Dry Tears stuff or give a donation.
